A LAKE Munmorah High School student and his band, 3 Stripe Avenue, made the semifinals of national television talent quest Australia's Got Talent.

The band's drummer Cameron Volkiene, a Lake Munmorah Year 11 student, performed with two other band members. As well as drumming, Cameron performed back-up vocals.

Auditions were held at Newcastle City Hall then the band was asked to send in a short video of themselves performing.

"Performing on TV was a nerve-racking experience," Cameron said.

"The judges didn't give us a lot of feedback, though they were encouraging and liked the band's unique style, 'alter-billy', which is alternative rockabilly.

"We were stoked to make it that far.

"This is a wonderful achievement and an encouragement to the band to keep going."

They hope to release a CD later this year.

The band members met at a talent contest in Mittagong about a year ago.

Cameron was performing a drum solo and brothers Ace and Cruise Schult were playing The Devil Went Down to Georgia.
